Substack: A Playwright's Journey
A weekly and monthly publication by Brynn Hambley
If you're like me, you're an emerging playwright with a few accolades to your name, but not as close as you'd like to being a full time theater artist. After all, it's not an easy thing to do! What can you do besides send out a million submissions and the occasional teaching or admin job application and hope for the best? You've been to school in some form already, and more of it is just SO expensive.
So, I developed a solution.
Every week, I write a review of a play available on New Play Exchange based on what fellow playwrights can learn from reading it. Along with this I recommend three other plays or articles that I have enjoyed reading that I think you may also enjoy from an entertainment OR educational perspective. Monthly, I review a writing, playwriting, and/or theater book and tell you if there's anything valuable to learn from it as a playwright. Basically, what's ACTUALLY worth your time to read for your continued (free) playwriting education?
The only way to reach our dreams and become better playwrights is to practice, and to never stop learning. So, let's do it together!
Currently, this is a free publication.
