None of Us Want to Be Here
A digital theatre protest piece
Created by the Ensemble, with Lead Artist Brynn Hambley
When Roe v Wade was overturned, I had had enough. So, I gathered up 10 of my collaborators from around the country, and together we made a piece about all the human rights violations that have effected us and our communities in the past few years. "None of Us Want to Be Here" is about anger, strength, despair, and hope that maybe, just maybe, our voices will be heard.
TW: This piece covers topics such as abortion, medical gaslighting, misgendering, racism, police brutality, censorship, and death.

Somebody Was Here: 10 min play
Produced February 2022 in collaboration with The Tank
Published December 2022 by The Coachella Review
In a distant-- or maybe not too distant --future, two people search through an abandoned, post apocalyptic town for supplies. What they find there is a stark reminder that perhaps we are not as in control of our future as we would like. Somebody Was Here is an exploration of discovery, devastation, and what it means to be a survivor.

Pumpkin Dreams
a short audio play by Brynn Hambley
It's a chilly night in October, and you are dreaming of a strange square pumpkin and a spectral clone of your mother spouting Dylan Thomas quotes. Your inner voice narrates and continues to wonder why you can't escape life, even when you're supposed to be resting. This lightly spooky and introspective Fall nightmare explores dream logic and symbolism, and highlights the frustration we may feel when even our dreams are interrupted by the stresses of life.
Produced by Soundscape Theater and directed by Anne Karyna Bakan, premiered October 26, 2020.

The Last Time
Flip flops; a U-Haul; Bigfoot; a studio apartment; unanswered texts; shadow puppets; the Cliffs of Dover--change is never easy and the steps towards getting over the past are different for everyone. A fleeting and ephemeral look into what it takes to climb the mountains life puts in front of us, The Last Time is an honest story about mental illness, change, regret, and what it means to finally be free of the chains we put on ourselves.

Paradise Lost and Found
by Brynn Hambley
Three people find themselves locked in a mysterious and cluttered bar room, soon discovered to be their own personal purgatory. How did they die? And how did they end up here? What follows is a discussion of death, morality, claustrophobia, and hope. Paradise Lost and Found shows us that moving on is possible, and redemption within reach.

Dark Chocolate and Other Bitter Things
Did you know that tongue prints
are as unique as thumbprints?
That every mouth you've kissed
is unlike any other on earth?
Yours tastes like cold tea and fog,
like the first time I scraped my knees,
dragged down the street by the neighbor's dog;
hot and alive and red.
But the first time our lips embraced,
it was all late nights and desperation,
grasping and hope and "please stay,
nobody else wants to stay."
We were lucky we had a mutual taste
for dark chocolate and other bitter things,
for feeling like the shot
you feared as a child, and still do somewhat.
You got the aftertaste of burnt popcorn,
sour unsent texts, and shifting clouds
out of my throat and off my tongue,
and if felt fit to dance again.
Ours is the smooth twirling of two
who learned the pattern that the gods had wrought
for us, imprinted on swirls so like fingerprints
that they touch like our hands,
intertwined but never, ever still.

Texas With an Accent
Slow dance polka in your mother's kitchen
"How we did it in Texas" you said
and for once I didn't have a witty quip
about hunting or Republicans or guns
because you were swinging me through
windows full of drying herbs
and your sisters had grabbed each other
and followed our lead--
your mother, oh your mother,
clapping her hands to the beat and laughing
and somewhere I thought
"This is love. Love is this."
And maybe it is and maybe it wasn't
but I teach my fiancé (who isn't you)
to polka "the Texas way"
even though I hate Texas
and still, sometimes,
you.
